When I was first studying this kind of stuff, I really had no idea what to read or what I believed, or anything. I spent a lot of time lurking on occult forums and whatnot, trying to get an idea of what to do, and it was sloooow going haha. I’ve heard good things about the book, Initiation Into Hermetics, by Franz Bardon, although I haven’t read it myself. Israel Regardie has written a lot on the Golden Dawn system, so if you like that aesthetic you might wanna check out some of his works. For an introduction to Hermetic Qabalah, I’d recommend Dion Fortune’s Mystical Qabalah, or Israel Regardie’s Garden of Pomegranates, or both. The works of Aleister Crowley are a goldmine, but might be a little rough going for a beginner (and idk what it is about Crowley, but I don’t like his writing), although I’ve heard very good things about Book 4 or Liber ABA. If you want to get into chaos magic, you’ll want to check out the works of Austin Osman Spare, and Peter J. Carroll (actually I’d recommend studying chaos magic whether you intend to practice it or not, if only to expose yourself to the theory).
If you haven’t done a lot of meditation, that’s the first thing you’re going to want to learn, along with visualization skills. I think that kind of stuff is covered in Initiation Into Hermetics (Once again, it’s one I haven’t read so I’m not 100%). You’re going to have to be patient and really get the hang of the meditation before all the magic and rituals are going to do you much good. After you’ve got that down, I’d suggest learning the Lesser Banishing Ritual of the Pentagram, and perform it at least once a day for at least a month before moving on to anything more advanced. Performing it two or three times a day is better, especially if you can do the invoking form in the morning and the banishing form at night, but not everybody can fit that into their schedules.
All that should keep you busy for awhile. If you have anymore questions, feel free to ask.
Born on the blackness of the new moon, this hour-long ambient mix is a meditation on emptiness and the void. It’s intended for deep introspective workings, long-term goal setting, paradigm shifting and reconfiguration. Or also: the moments before the plunge, risk taking, challenge, dare, and entry into the unknown.
This is my first attempt at an audiosigil or infusing a magical intent onto a musical piece. For use with ritual or meditation.
If you use it, I’d be happy to hear your experiences or responses.
